To help the Nigerian Police put an end to crime in the country, the National Space Research and Development agency, NASRDA, has successfully completed a Police post at its Headquarters in Lugbe.
The Police post, commissioned by the Inspector-General of Police, Mike Okiro, will help the Police combat crime in Abuja.
The NASDR Director-General, Prof. R. A. Boroffice, in his address, said the decision to embark on this project was borne out of the genuine intention to assist the Nigerian Police in effectively executing its lawful assignments.
“Space Agencies all over the world have a lot of things in common with security agencies. Hence, the symbiotic relationship between Space Agencies and Security Agencies as partners in progress.”
Prof. Boroffice said his agency would assist the police to serve Nigeria better and will continue to do their best to support the Nigerian Police.
According to him, “Four officers have been trained in the area of Communication in Ife and we shall show you how to use space technology to fight crime. Facilities like cameras are used to fight crime in advanced countries.”
Furthermore, he acknowledged with gratitude, the high level of commitment, hard work and patriotism of the various officers of the police who have worked with the Agency since its move to the permanent site.
Mr. Okiro in his remarks thanked NASRDA for taking such a bold step in combating crime in the country. He said, “This shows that every agency, whether public or private must be security conscious.”
He also commended the DG for shooting Nigeria into space like USA and Russia.
The event was also attended by stakeholders and other dignitaries.
