Abimbola, Eaglets assistant coach demands constructive criticisms
Following avalanche of criticisms which have continued to trail Golden Eaglets preparations for this year’s FIFA U-17 Championship which is to be staged in Nigeria, one of the team’s assistant coaches, Samuel Abimbola has called for fair and constructive criticisms as he urged Nigerians to find something good to say about the team’s preparations.
Speaking to The Abuja Inquirer, the coach noted that in as much as the team’s Chief Coach Henry Nwosu has thrown everything into his present assignment, some Nigerians have vowed never to see anything good in what he is doing.
He explained that the ex-international player has gone about his job diligently and has not done anything to warrant some of the stories that have continued to fly around town.
According to him, stories making the rounds that the coach has concluded plans to bring in foreign players to prosecute the U-17 Championship for Nigeria were completely baseless and capable of destroying the spirit in the team’s camp.
Coach Abimbola who said his boss has the team under firm control assured Nigerians that at the appropriate time, Nigerians would be served the meal which the former Green Eagles star player has been cooking.
The former handler of Court of Appeal FC and Access football club therefore called on Nigerians to continue to give their support to the team’s coaching crew just as he noted that unfounded criticisms will not do the team’s preparations any good.
He reiterated that from the matches so far played by the team, the chief coach is gradually arriving at the players who would represent Nigeria in the championship.
“We have played so many friendly matches and from what the boys played, I can confidently say that we are not doing badly. The shape of the team is beginning to unfold and kudos must be given to the chief coach who has not allowed some of the demoralizing comments to weigh him down” the coach stated.
Coach Abimbola therefore demanded for constructive criticism, if the Golden Eaglets of Nigeria are to win the FIFA U-17 championship back to back.
Before the appointment of the present coaching crew, the former technical crew led by Coach Alphonsius Dike had failed to qualify Nigeria for the Africa U-17 Championship in Algeria
