2011: ANPP gets 20 man convention committee

Conscious of the benefits of early planning, the All NIGERIA Peoples Party—ANPP, recently appointed and inaugurated a 20 Man National Convention Committee-NCC, to ensure proper organization of its party machinery for effective participation in the forthcoming 2011 general elections.
The committee chaired by Yobe state Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Gaidam during the inauguration attracted party supporters across the six geo-political zones of the country to the ANPP National Secretariat in Abuja.
Addressing the committee members at the inauguration, Chairman of the party, Chief Edwin Ume-Ezeoke, said the National Executive Committee-NEC-of the party took the decision of putting the convention committee in place early enough to ensure that a thorough job is done and forestall leaving any room for fire brigade measures.
He said that the party executives and the entire members of the party were aware that there was no much time to be wasted to “start from now, the processes of ensuring credible party men and women are positioned for the 2011 elections.
Committee Chairman, Governor Gaidam assured all the party members that the confidence and trust being placed in them for a thorough assignment will not be misplaced.
He said with the integrity and loyal commitment of each member in the committee, nothing short of success should be expected at the primaries and ultimately the national convention.
Gaidam said “we are aware that this is a position of trust given to us, and members of our party has high expectations. Our success in handling this sensitive assignment will determine the future of our party, the faith our members and indeed the Nigerian people have in us, and our chances at the forthcoming general elections.
“In order for our party to remain focused, this committee will be conscious of the objectives of our party and work hard to create a level playing field for all players in the political process to emerge. In this regard, we will be sensitive to and be guided by the rule of law. We will also ensure equity, social justice, transparency and due process in the conduct of our assignment”, he added.
He further informed that the committee is resolved to confront every challenge that is likely to face it with deep sense of duty even as he enjoined all party members to cooperate with the committee in repositioning and transforming the party from being the strongest opposition party to the party which will form next government and establish an egalitarian society in 2011.
The functions of the committee as contained in Article 27 of the ANPP constitution include to conduct and supervise the National Convention of the party, to set up state congress Committees for conduct of elections into the State Executive Committees as well as monitor the conduct of such elections.
Furthermore the NCC is empowered to carry out any other functions as may be assigned to it by the National Working Committee and the NEC.
Names of members of the Committee are Chif Livinus Nwambe as Secretary, Nnamdi Olebare, Chief Basil Chukwu, Princess Dickson, Alhaji Momoh, Hon. Ali Ndume, Hon. Ubale Keiru, Alhaji Bolaji Khaleel, Hon. Mary Enwogulu, Alhaji Ali Ngala and Alhaji Garba Gedi
Others include Alhaji Tajudeen Agbeti, Chief Olu Ogunbajo, Prince Abubarkar Audu, Sen. Kabir Gaya,Sen. Mohammed A. Mohammed, Alhaji Dabiru Umar and Sulaiman Salamatu.
